Sex, Gender and the Sacred

The road to the sacred runs through the carnal. Not only the Bible but Life itself reveals that sexuality is more spiritual than biological. The erotic is God's poetry of love calling us out of ourselves to awareness of beauty and to an expansive creativity and giving of ourselves. We go to God through one another, via loving, not apart from one another. --Paschal.

LOVE is not quid pro quo

Love is not “Quid pro Quo.

Quid pro Quo is Latin for “something for something
meaning an exchange in which both get something.
A similar saying would be
‘Scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours.

Love means many things to many people.
“I love my new (whatever).

A mother’s love is not quid pro quo.
A parent’s love cannot be quid pro quo,
Because a child cannot be expected to pay back,
but the paradox is there
must be limits,
else some of us can end up
using others’ trust and love
for our selfish ends.

God’s love, we believe, is not quid pro quo.
It is unconditional, astoundingly, amazingly undeserved.
Who of us deserved life? Or anything?
Human love is the metaphor for God’s love,
calling us out of ourselves into
surrendering ourselves to make the other happy.

Human love is the most amazing grace of all.
The erotic is the poetry of the Divine and Holy One.
...teasing us into relationship.
Into surrender.

And when we open our hearts to this kind of loving,
we can find amazement everywhere.
We can discover intimations of the Other
in most places we look.

It is a matter of faith,
and hope
and loving.

Also of gratitude
and humility, also of compassion and courage.
Noblesse Oblige.
“When Love is lord of heaven and earth,
how can we keep from singing? (Hymn)
