Marriage 101

CONGRATULATIONS!
- on considering our brief pre-marital counseling package consisting of two sessions and profiling to prepare you for the immense task of building a happy and successful marriage for many years to come.

Dr. Baute assisted literally thousands of couples in counseling and his classes over thirty years to learn to cope with difference and challenges they had not imagined on their wedding day.

He was trained at one of the best clinics in the country at the University of Pennsylvania Marriage Council of Philadelphia, and was Kentucky’s first professional Marital Therapist when he opened his office in 1970 in Lexington.

His doctoral desperation was the first to investigate the component of intimacy in happily married couples, and a first also in the still new field of Positive Psychology.

Now, with Marriage 101, he offers a brief counseling and profiling introduction to the tasks of building a happy and successful marriage. Marriage is the most serious undertaking in life and the most challenging. What gets you married is not enough to keep you married. Love by itself is not enough. Most of us have little idea of what we are beginning. We may be in love but we bring our egos, our past relationships, our family histories into the living room, the kitchen and even the bedroom. A short course can go a long way to prepare the couple what to expect and what skills are needed. Many studies show that the original blush of love lasts from five to seven years. So there are stages we must learn to negotiate in order to continue loving. Stresses and strains of two individual living, loving and partnering are too much for 50% of those who marry, always with the best intentions.

Dr. Baute uses and has developed several profiles that help couples understand their differences and similiaries, what to expect, what the expected challenges are and how to deal positively with the inevitable negative feelings that are sure to arise.

Marriage 101 is the basic package, consisting of two session with a total of six short inventories that can be completed in less than one hour. These brief inventories scan the potential conflict areas, such as natural communication style, value differences and role expectations. Couples are amazed at how accurate and helpful they are. They feel closer and more empowered for the great adventure of life-time of loving they are beginning.

Dr. Baute meets with each couple two times. The first session is orientation. They complete the profiles at home and return them A second session is then scheduled to review the profiles. Couples also receive free copies of the Equalog Contract and a copy of his newest book: Win Win Finesse: How to Deal Positively with Negative Feelings. Dr. Baute also has taught conflict management to managers and employees in many organizations. He still teaches Human Resource Management classes for Midway College at the Hamburg campus.

Based upon the profiling, Dr. Baute will select at least five short articles for further conversation between each couple during their first year of marriage. He has published over 300 articles on every aspect of relationships and love.

The cost for the Marriage 101 package, two sessions and six profiles is $200.00, payable at the first session. It is strongly recommended that the first session take place at least one month before the wedding date.

The profiling includes the famous Team Building report of DISC stile widely used by Fortune 500 companies for team building and leadership development. IT is 20 pages full of tips on understanding not only your own natural temperament style, but specifically how to communicate with the natural style of your partner. Other profiles address ways each person and the couple define their shared values, expectations for affection and role, shared spiritual values and typical ways they interact.

Included in this package is the Equalog Contract, widely used in pre-marital sessions, a twelve page booklet for deciding what agreements shall guide and be the foundation of the home you are building. Lastly , the highly reviewed Win-Win Finesse book, How to Deal Positively with Negative Feelings is pr0vided free. This is also highly reviewed and a tested method of preventing conflict and reaching mutually satisfying solutions, both at home and in the workplace.

Marriage 101 builds a firm foundation for your future home.
